To this very day, the city bears within it serveral sites reminding us of the imperial era. Take a discovery trip to the House which witnessed Napoleon’s birth and where he grew up until age 9.
  • The Fesch Museum: A world renowned site, the Fesch Museum houses the largest collection of Italian paintings after the Louvre Museum! The paintings are essentially derived from the legacy of Cardinal Joseph Fesch, who was none other than Napoleon Bonaparte’s uncle. He gathered the largest collection of Italian art ever established, a total of 16,000 works!
  • The Old Town: Impossible to discover Ajaccio without passing through its historical center. Strolling through the narrow lanes of the old town, around the citadel and cathedral is a requisite for understanding the history of the city, founded by the Genoese in 1492. The Genoese quarter is not only the oldest of the city but also the most beautiful, according to Ajaccio inhabitants.
  • Nighttime Shopping: During the months of July and August, every Friday evening as of 8:00 pm, and until late into the night, downtown merchants welcome you for the Ajaccio Shopping de Nuit event. Musical and theatrical entertainment add to the café atmosphere, setting the pace of the city’s pedestrian streets.
